Those of us who are believers in Jesus Christ know that we have been freed from the penalties due us via Jesus Christ. We fortunately do not get what we absolutely deserve and instead get what we don’t deserve, to loosely quote one of my favorite Christian songs by The Newsboys, “Real Good Thing”. That’s true in terms of our eternal salvation, but what about our short life here on planet earth? Is it possible for a Born Again Believer in Jesus Christ to be free from the physical consequential penalties of their earthly choices? Well, for me, I seem to keep having to suffer for my poor choices. I eat to much, I get fatter! This is a real problem for me. In fact, I feel like a prisoner to food. It wasn’t long ago, I used to be a prisoner to materialism. Though I attended church regularly, tithed faithfully, etc., I spent all of my time trying to make enough money to support the system of living I had created. Nothing was left for God or my family in Christ. I was frustrated, imprisoned! I then found freedom in Gods word. Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32. There are numerous teachings, but they all point to “loving others”. Once I began to shed all the stuff I had chained myself with, I soon found enough time to love others more and more. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. John 15:10-12. Since embracing these scriptures, I have found freedom and a great deal of joy. Lighten your load of worldly stuff and focus on Gods commands, your joy will increase!
