Yesterday at church I heard a wonderful story told by our pastor during his sermon on what is Gods Kingdom here and now?. Jody set up the story with a number of biblical truths and analogies. He explained that when he coaches girls softball he is always reminding the girls to get “softball ready” which means to get on their toes with their glove ready to catch the ball if it should come their way.
Then Jody shared this wonderful story of a true experience a friend of his had years ago. The friend was a new pastor and still owned a full service station to pay the bills. One day a very beautiful lady showed up with her car in tow after it broke down. After assessing the problem he quoted the woman a price to fix the car. She discreetly responded that she worked as a prostitute and offered a trade for some of her time for the work. Jody’s friend asked her how much time would he get for his services. She responded “about two hours”. The new pastor agreed to the trade and informed her it would have to be the coming Sunday. He continued that he and his wife would pick her up at 8 am to take her to church with them and promised to have her back by 10am. She agreed and ended up giving her life to Jesus Christ that Sunday. Today she is married to a Godly man and still attends that same church.
WOW, Hallelujah, Praise God, IN YOUR FACE DEVIL! Jody then wrapped his sermon by pointing out that unfortunately, religious Christians would have rebuked the lady and called her a harlot before sending her down the road. Because his pastor friend was “softball ready” he understood the divine mission God had given him with the woman’s original offer. Jody left us all with the challenge to be “softball ready” everywhere we go!
Thank you Jesus for using Jody to remind us of this wonderful truth!

Our paradigms must be changed in order for the church to rise to the occasion. This pastor definitely rose to the occasion. I pray that I will when the opportunities come…which they will. Thanks for sharing this, Kevin. I needed the reminder, also.
