I just love how our Father treats us with little slices of joy everyday! I was shooting these Azaleas when this beautiful butterfly comes flying into my frame. No one can convince me that was an accident or “just happened”. From there on, I chased that butterfly all over the garden getting some amazing shots…at least amazing for my butterfly photography talents. I’m sure there is much better out there. Oh FYI, this image was shot at the SFA Mast Arboretum, in case you want to go chase butterflies:) The other cool thing is it got me thinking about the butterfly and it’s life long transformations and how wonderful the butterfly story is as an allegory for us as Christians. Some of you are thinking what is this dude talkin about? Ok, let me explain, The butterfly starts as an egg and then transforms from egg, to larvae (caterpillar), to pupa (the chrysalis or cocoon) and from the cocoon the butterfly emerges in her unfurling glory. All this in about a month, now that is the definition of a true stud in my book. I never thought I would ask God to help me be as strong as a butterfly in my life:) Ok, bunny trail here…if I kill a caterpillar in front of my wife, she is going to bat her beautiful blue eye’s at me and smile. I might even get a kiss out of the deal. If I kill a butterfly in front of her, those blue eyes will not be batting, they’ll be locked on to me like laser beams and I’m definitely not getting a kiss! I’m confused. Lets get back to my real point. First off, I’m not smart enough to line out for you what each stage means. I’ve read many of them on the web and have heard most of them in sermons over time. They all differ and sound great. Bottom line, I want to be the butterfly, not the caterpillar.
You know, I’ll bet God created the butterfly just to remind us of what has done and is doing in each of us, especially me. A major part of our walk as Christians is our own metamorphosis! Did you know the word “transformed” comes from the Greek word metamorfoo, which means to “change into another form, to transform, to transfigure”. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:The old has gone, the new is here!” Let it be Lord, Let it be!
