PHOTO EPISTLE #10 – TRUE LOVE

Every year I produce a photo annual book of the best images I took the year before. Lately, I’ve been finalizing the 2010 edition and for some reason this image has been stuck in my head. It comes from a story my wife, Leslie (a writer) and I worked on for Texas Highways Magazine last year on Glen Rose, Texas. When I first shot the image, I was laughing inside at this older couple tearing up a shuffle board in a way seniors normally don’t do. However, I soon quit laughing as the Lord began allowing me to see things that changed my emotions to almost tearful admiration. First I suddenly noticed that in spite of being surrounded by others listening to the bluegrass music being played, Pete and Ethelda Riggs could care less that they were the only ones dancing. As I looked closer I began to see scars of old battles. On one hand most of his fingers were missing, but he was in heaven as long as he had his bride in his arms. As Leslie slid up next to me it dawned  on me, It would not be all that long before this could be Leslie and I. That no matter what was going on, as long as I had her in my arms, all would be ok and I was complete. I stopped shooting and we locked arms around each other and just watched this happy couple. I wonder, is it possible that God does not feel complete without His bride? This intense love I can only feel in the arms of my wife is what God longs to have from His bride to be? Could it be that all these trials that each of us have endured and what Jesus had to endure is for this very special intense love that will last forever and never wane and die out? Isaiah 62:5 “As a young man marries a young woman, so will your Builder marry you; as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.”
