My heart is breaking, so I know God’s heart is breaking that much more. Each day the news gets worse from just about all corners of the world. If one were inclined to run and hide, I don’t think he could find a safe place on this planet. As I have been in town this week, I can see the fear on peoples faces. Some so strong I just want to run up to them and let them know it’s all going to be ok….in Christ!
The photo above was taken in Hawaii years ago. I had been asked to guest teach at one of the universities there. I loved getting my students out to shoot cool places, so I took them to this location. We are all on top of a lava tube which is dumping lava into the ocean. This lava would just explode when it hit the salt water and made for some very dramatic photos. A week after we were there, the instructor who had invited me to come every year for five years sent me an article about another photographer shooting at the same location was killed when he was completely engulfed by a wave of lava after one of those massive explosions. Sadly, I was never invited back again after that. Since then this photo has represented God’s faithfulness in my life. No matter how bad it has gotten, He will always be there to help us through the trials of this life and protect us, even from our own ignorance. We in Christ have nothing to fear…
2Peter 3: 8-13 “8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[a] 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.[b] That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.”
