I’ve always loved shooting trees and the above photo is one of my favorites in my library of images. After shooting the photos, I actually sat at the base of this tree and just rested and prayed. I marveled at all the limbs and wondered how deep the roots must go. The tree was estimated to be about 400 years old. That was nothing, at the back of the frame is a bench which faces another tree estimated to be over 1,000 years old, known as “The Big Tree” If i remember correctly, it is the oldest tree in Texas and the oldest live oak in the world. My little 400+ year old tree is in good company and most likely a kin to The Big Tree. As I rested there, thoughts of the Hurricanes it must have survived, being on the coast, filled my mind. I thought this was a tree I would want to hold on to in a storm surge. This photo is actually one of several I call a “Psalm 91” photo. This tree represents so many of Gods promises in Psalm 91…protection, deliverance, refuge, long life, etc. The end of this scripture says it all…“Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Thank you Jesus! I deeply love you!
